Preserving the Art

Aftercare Rituals.

Your tattoo is an investment in your personal narrative. The healing process is the final stage of the artistic creation.

01

The First 24 Hours

The Bandage

Keep your artist's wrap on for 2 to 4 hours. If they used a medical-grade adhesive film (like Saniderm), follow their specific instructions—it may stay on for up to 3 to 5 days.

The First Wash

Wash your hands first. Use lukewarm water and a fragrance-free, antibacterial soap. Use your fingertips—never a washcloth or loofah.

The Pat Dry

Pat the area dry with a clean, single-use paper towel. Do not rub. Let it air dry for 15 minutes before applying any product.

02

Days 2-7: Peeling

Moisturize

Apply a very thin layer of fragrance-free lotion 2-3 times a day. If it's shiny or greasy, you've used too much. The skin needs to breathe.

Hands Off

It will itch. Do not scratch or pick. Picking can pull the ink out, leaving "holidays" (blank spots) in the design.

03

Weeks 2-4: Deep Healing

Keep Hydrating

The surface looks healed, but deeper layers are still recovering. Continue using lotion whenever the skin feels tight.

Sun Protection

Once peeling stops, SPF 30+ is mandatory. UV rays are the #1 enemy of tattoo longevity; they break down ink particles over time.

Rule of Thumb

"If it's shiny or greasy, you've used too much.
The skin needs to breathe."

The "No" List

01

No Submerged Water

Avoid baths, pools, oceans, or saunas for at least 2 weeks. Moisture traps bacteria.

02

No Direct Sunlight

Keep the tattoo covered. UV rays are the primary cause of fading and irritation.

03

No Tight Clothing

Avoid friction. Wear loose, breathable fabrics to prevent irritation and ink loss.
